GSA Day

What is GSA Day?

GSA Day consists of TWO National Days of Action: GSA Day for Racial Justice and GSA Day for Gender Justice.

  • GSA Day for Gender Justice (November) is a day for GSA clubs, LGBTQ+ youth and allies to celebrate the extraordinary accomplishments and contributions of trans and gender nonconforming people, to honor those we've lost along the way, and to mobilize our communities to fight for gender justice.
  • GSA Day for Racial Justice (February) is an annual day of action to mobilize for racial justice and celebrate the multiple identities we hold as LGBTQ youth. This year, GSA Day for Racial Justice will honor Audre Lorde’s words, impact, and legacy, and take action across the country in support of the #BlackLivesMatter movement.

Take Action!

Across the country, young people will be using ART & SOLIDARITY to shine a light on the Prison Industrial Complex (PIC), and its horrific, unfair, and intentional impact on trans and queer youth of color.

TQ Youth of Color who are facing (1) detainment (because of immigration status), and (2) incarceration are being centered and highlighted via art, statistics, facts, and solidarity actions all using the hashtags #GSADay4RJ and #FreeOurFolks.

PRISON INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX  The Prison Industrial Complex (PIC) is the overlapping, inter-connected system of state and federal prisons, county jails, military prisons, Native American jails, immigrant detention facilities, and other forms of incarceration that benefit economically from society's ill-gotten belief that imprisonment is the best way to rehabilitate people who exist or engage outside of "legal" social, economic and political norms.

  • Get collective agreement from your GSA
  • Contact your local GSA network
  • Let them know you are interested in connecting with a larger action
  • Identify what you are comfortable with doing and ask them what can be done
  • Organize your GSA and other clubs at your school/in your area to attend the event
  • Check out our GSADay Facebook page

Keep the momentum going!

Change takes time, energy and resources, we will not be able to create the type of change we’d like to see in a month’s time. We must continue to celebrate, collaborate and organize on #blacklivesmatter throughout the year. What is an action? Actions are events that organizations, communities, individuals and GSAs do to educate, bring attention to and attempt to change culture and policy. There are different ways to take action and we at GSA Network hope that your GSA can employ one or more of the following:

  • Host a teach-in using our curriculum
  • Poster or chalk at your school or in your community
  • Hold a gender justice rally
  • Have a meeting with your school admin about bathroom equality right
