By LuzMarina Serrano, Lead Organizer for Two Spirit Initiative and National Alliances

When I was at Standing Rock a number of years ago, I stayed with the Two Spirit Nation, one of the camps located at Standing Rock. In that camp, I experienced a profound sense of community, evidenced by the incredible comrades and organizers that I came to know in my time there. Amidst all the work and the heartache that accompanied the fight for the protection of people and Indigenous land, I was also moved to be a part of such an important moment in history.

What is clear is that the rights and values of our native and Two Spirit family continues to be under threat. At GSA Network, we are committed to uplifting the voices and identities that so often get left out of the mainstream LGBTQ+ movement.

As we begin Native American Heritage Month, we hope to bring this sense of community to our work and prepare for the launch of our Two Spirit Initiative. This month we will uplift the voices of some of our Steering Committee members who are co-leading this initiative with us. Be on the lookout for a few stories and blogs that will highlight our lived experiences, our organizing, and the local work happening on the ground.
