Carimah joined GSA Network after years of reporting for progressive news sites. Like many others, she was profoundly changed by the shootings of Trayvon Martin, Mike Brown, and Tamir Rice – three tragedies that influenced her reporting and commitment to writing about systemic injustice. She previously wrote about prosecutors and local criminal justice issues for the Fair Punishment Project. At ThinkProgress, she also wrote about the ways race intersects with the prison system, policing, and pop culture. Uplifting marginalized voices, including trans and queer communities, has always been at the heart of her work. Carimah is proud to be from Southern California and Western Massachusetts. In her free time, she loves to binge watch TV shows, read books by authors of color, attend game nights, and lounge on the beach.
