From DC to LA, GSAs support immigrant youth

GSA leaders, you kept your promise: thousands of you signed my petition to the President to free Yordy Cancino and all LGBT youth from ICE detention.

So yesterday, I kept mine: I delivered your signatures to the White House, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and several members of Congress.

On the same day I was in DC, supporters from the Immigrant Youth Coalition, National Queer and Trans Latin@ Alliance, and GSA Network rallied outside the ICE building in Yordy's home town of Los Angeles.

It was an incredible day of unity across coasts and between immigrant and LGBT youth activists. I am proud of the work everyone has done, including the folks who joined me early in the morning for a press conference and the courageous people who rallied in front of the ICE building in LA. I am especially greatful for the amazing support I recieved in Washington DC from the DC Regional GSA Network at SMYAL, National Queer Trans Latin@ Alliance, QUIP DC members, and the Natinal Day Laborer Organizing Network hunger strikers.

I am angry that Yordy is still in detention, but take heart knowing he has an entire movement behind him -- the GSA movement. We won’t give up until undocumented LGBTQ youth receive justice!
