#GSADay4GJ: TQYouth Tell Us What Gender Justice Means To You

GSA Day for Gender Justice, a youth-led national day of action, is taking place on November 17, 2017, giving trans and queer youth an opportunity to give their perspective on what gender justice means in our community.

#GSADay4GJ is a day for GSA clubs, LGBTQ+ youth and allies to celebrate the extraordinary contributions of trans and gender nonconforming (GNC) people, to honor those we've lost along the way, and to mobilize our communities to fight for gender justice.

Join us to boldly declare why we need gender justice. Here are a few ways that you can take action on #GSADay4GJ:

1) What Does Gender Justice Mean to You? Selfie Campaign

This year, trans and GNC youth are invited to take a photo with your response to what gender justice looks like to you through the ‘What does Gender Justice Mean to You?’ selfie campaign!. This is a great activity to do with your GSA club members or individually to uplift your voice!

Download the selfie frame, fill out the statement template, take a selfie, and post your photos on 11/17 to Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter using the hashtags #GSADay4GJ and #OurTransTruth to join the movement with other trans and queer youth. (Remember to use a black marker so that everyone can see your statement).

Follow the campaign on our Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter @ourtranstruth to be part of the movement!

And don’t forget to change your Facebook profile to show your support for #GSADay4GJ!

2) Host a Gender Justice Workshop or Teach-in

Get your GSA club or school talking about gender justice by facilitating a workshop on or around 11/17. We have workshop curriculum, handouts, and PowerPoints ready to go! There are two workshops to choose from:

Foundation for Gender Justice that introduces participants to gender justice, including key terms and concepts. (Powerpoint) (Curriculum)

Intersectional Gender Justice, which explores how organizing and activism can be more intersectional and inclusive. Check out the curriculum and PowerPoint. (Powerpoint) (Curriculum)

Check out our videos on the purpose of #GSADayforGJ as well as an overview of the workshops to get you started at gsanetwork.org/gsaday.

3) Sign the Petition

This year, the National Trans Youth (TRUTH) Council has created a  #ShowUp4TransYouth in Schools petition to the Department of Education demanding equitable treatment of all gender identities within schools and making sure there are protections for trans and GNC youth. Look out for details on the petition via Facebook and Twitter on Monday, November 13, 2017.
