GSA Activist Camps

Every summer GSA Network offers GSA Activist Camp!  GSA Activist Camps are youth-planned, youth-led summer training academies.

GSA Activist Camps serve middle and high school students in Northern California, Southern California, and the Central Valley.

GSA Activist Camps are 3 days long and feature intensive community building, skill-building, political education and leadership training for current and potential GSA members.

Participants come from a wide range of backgrounds and learn how to:

  • Strengthen their GSA clubs through coalition building, strategic organizing and fundraising.
  • Understand the legal rights of students and GSA clubs.
  • Protect students from slurs, bullying and discrimination.
  • Recognize the ways that homophobia and transphobia are connected to racism, sexism, classism and other oppressions.
  • Work with school administrators to fight homophobia and transphobia.
  • Run successful campaigns to change the climate on their campuses.

Hear What GSA Activist Camp Participants Are Saying

"Camp gave me the tools and materials to better understand the cause we are fighting for. We used what we learned in an ‘Action Simulation’ and it showed us different techniques for doing things, such as talking with administrators and peers, that I personally would not have thought of otherwise."
- Rebecca Silva, Laguna Hills High School, GSA Activist Camp 2009

"I'm going to start a GSA at my school! What I really want to do this year, though, is work with my school administrators on creating a more open environment for LGBTQ students in the classroom. Diversity training is going to be key for our club."
- Marissa Minnick, Torrey Pines High School, GSA Activist Camp 2009
